Social sharing settings

Control what shows up when your site is shared on social media

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Sharing site defaults

On the Site Settings page of your Run website, you can control what shows up when someone shares a link to your website. Under the SEO & Sharing section, set your Title, Description, and Share Image. This information will also control what shows up on search engines and when links are sent via messaging apps, like iMessage.

Any information on your Site Settings page will be the default information that shows up when any of your individual site pages are shared as well.

Customize sharing information by page

Sharing information can also be set on individual pages by navigating to the page, then clicking Page Settings, and setting that information on the sidebar.

Favicon

The "favicon" is a small icon that shows up next to your URL in the browser tab, on search results, and more. You can upload a custom favicon at Site Settings > SEO & Sharing. It's generally best to use a favicon image with a transparent background and leaving a little bit of margin around the edges of the visible part of the image so it sits nicely within the places where it's placed. The favicon upload will force you to crop the image to a square, since that's the format required by a favicon generally.

Troubleshooting

Social media platforms like Facebook and X/Twitter will cache share information, such that updating it on your website won't quickly update it when it's shared on a social platform. If you're in a rush to update it, one option is to change the Slug of the page, also on the Page Settings sidebar. When the updated link is shared, the social platform will refetch the share information from your website.

You can also use Facebook's Share Debugger, to see what Facebook is seeing without actually sharing a link: https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug
